We've all heard a lot about possible Linux PDAs dominating the PDA world only to be disappointed by very few available products. There was a lot of buzz a few years back about possible pocket linux devices but that never really came to fruition.
Open Palmtop Integrated Environment, or Opie, is an open source Linux OS for PDAs. It can be installed on Hewlett Packard iPAQ models and Sharp Zaurus handhelds. It has also been reported to work on some Psion5 systems.
Opie comes with applications including address book, to-do list, application launcher screen, and date book. Opie also includes the opieplayer2 which supports streaming audio and video and an image viewer. It also includes the Konqueror web browser, mail reader, ebook reader, and a PDF reader.
Let's see if Opie can stay around and actually develop into a solid competitor to Palm and Pocket PC platforms. It certainly looks cool!
