Samsung is planning to use the Nokia Series 60 reference design for the user interface and other handset services. No timetable has been announced for releasing Symbian phones to market.
Editor's Take
I think Samsung is positioning itself very well in the new smart phone space. By licensing both the Symbian and Windows based OS in addition their existing Palm OS license Samsung is poised to take advantage of the loyal customer base that each of the differing OS have developed.
Samsung is the world's number 3 handset manufacturer and they know that the smart phone arena is an emerging area, and one in which they can grow their market share. By signing licensing agreements with three of the major OS developers Samsung is able to develop devices for every individual user regardless of their platform preference.
