The introductory pricing for the Sidekick has it selling for $199 after a $50 mail-in rebate. T-Mobile has also created an introductory rate plan which gives users unlimited data transmission, 200 anytime minutes, and 1000 weekend minutes for $39.95. This rate plan also includes free domestic long distance.
The Sidekick is being marketed as the ideal device for today's teen or young adult. It allows for web surfing with a full web browser, users can chat using the built-in AOL Instant Messenger, and the Sidekick is also a phone complete with blinking lights, customizable ringtones, and more.
In addition to the nationwide launch of the Sidekick, T-Mobile has also set up a special auction on ebay. The winner of the auction will receive a Sidekick autographed by spokesperson Catherine Zeta-Jones, a year of free service; and a trip for two to San Francisco on October 10 to see multi-platinum rock band CREED perform live at T-Mobile Rocks the Rock – the first ever outdoor concert on Alcatraz Island to celebrate the nationwide ‘break out’ of T-Mobile’s GET MORE service offering.
